On 4 January 2014, Deber Enumby was arrested in Kurlik village in Puncak Jaya following the theft of eight firearms from the Kurilik police post. He was charged with Emergency Law 12/1951 and, according to Papua police potentially faces the death penalty. There are concerns that Deber Enumby has been tortured.
