Jayapura police arrested 34 people on 30th November 2019 in Sentani, Jayapura. They were allegedly planning to participate in the 1st of December commemoration. 14 people were released while 20 others remained in detention with treason charges. These arrests were part of state security’s wider effort to crackdown on freedom of expression and assembly of the West Papuan people in the lead up to the 1st of December Flag Raising ceremony in West Papua.
