Pugima KNPB case

01/07/2012

Two men were searched by police in a street control as they were returning to Pugima village from Wamena town. Police claimed that they were carrying documents related to the OPM and KNPB, so they were held and charged with treason. However, interrogation reports indicate that the main focus of police questioning was actually the two men’s involvement with above-ground pro-independence groups at the community level, rather than the underground TPN-OPM guerillas. Some months later both men escaped from prison.
