On 2 March, Otis Waropen was arrested by Nabire Regional police and Mobiles Brigades (Brigades Mobile, Brimob) forces accused of being a member of the pro-independence Free West Papua Movement (Organisasi Papua Merdeka, OPM). The chief of the local Yerisiam tribe stated that Waropen was a farmer with no political affiliations.
