Mr Mirin is a final-year student at Universitas Papua. He both assisted in the organisation of and participated in a Free West Papua protest in Manokwari on 3 September 2019, including by delivering speeches at the protest. Two Morning Star flags were flying during this protest, which was part of the broader political uprising which swept across West Papua from 19 August to 23 September 2019. He was arrested by Manokwari Police Resort without a warrant and charged with violating Articles 106 and 110, Articles 160 and 212 jo 213 of the Criminal Code. He was charged with incitement and was sentenced to 9 months in prison.
He was released on 16th June 2020.
