Sem Asso was arrested by the police in Timika on the 8th of January 2019 for taking part in a gathering on 30th of December 2018 in the KNPB Timika branch office. He was arrested along with Emanuel Dogopia and Yanto Awerkion. They were all charged with treason. Sem Asso was sentenced to 10 months in prison. He has since been released after serving the full term of his sentence.
