Stevanus Pigai (26), Mikael Bukega (26), and Yos Iyai (26) were arrested on 1 September 2019. Prosecutors sought 10 months imprisonment for each of them. They were found guilty of violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code on incitement. They were sentenced to five months 22 days jail on 6 March 2020 and released on the day of the verdict. Stevanus Pigai is the chairman of the Surabaya City Papuan Student Alliance (AMP). AMP has been actively voiced for a referendum for the Papuan people. They have been carrying out peaceful demonstrations in Surabaya and other cities in Java.
