On 28 May, Yafet Keiya and Ottis Munipa were arrested alongside six other KPB members during a demonstration in support of a bid by the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) for membership of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG). They were detained in Nabire Regional Police Station.
As an active member with the KNPB, Keiya had been arrested at previous demonstrations. On 23 December, he was detained for several days alongside nine other KNPB activists for taking part in commemorative activities celebrating the 6th anniversary of the formation of the KNPB.
It is unclear what charges Keiya and Munipa are facing.
