Yohanes Payage (19) was arrested on 3 October for throwing rocks at police officers and shops. He was operated on twice after having been shot in his right thigh, which remains limp due to a persistent infection. His case was tried at the District Court in Biak. Prosecutors sought one year and eight months’ imprisonment. He was found guilty of violating Article 170 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code on collective violence against persons or objects and sentenced to one year and six months’ imprisonment on 20 July 2020. He was freed on 13 August 2020.
